Privacy Policy – Basics

With that said, a Privacy Policy is a statement that discloses some or all of the ways in which a website collects, uses, discloses, processes, and manages the data of its visitors and customers. It usually also includes a statement about the website’s commitment to protecting the privacy of its visitors or customers and an explanation of the various data protection mechanisms that the site implements.

Different jurisdictions have different legal requirements regarding what must be included in a Privacy Policy. You are responsible for ensuring that you comply with the relevant legislation applicable to your business and location.

What to include in a Privacy Policy

In general, Privacy Policy often addresses the following issues:

  • What type of information does the website collect and how does it collect it;

  • An explanation of why the website collects this type of information;

  • What are the website's practices regarding sharing information with third parties;

  • The ways in which visitors and customers can exercise their rights under applicable data protection legislation;

  • Specific practices regarding the collection of data from minors;

  • And many others.
